Executive Director

Advocate Drum, also known as Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization (FDRLO), is seeking a full time Executive Director.

Advocate Drum is a membership organization with volunteer participation in the day-to-day operations.  This position is part of a small office environment, reports directly to the Board of Directors, and carries out the mission, vision, and goals of the organization in support of Fort Drum and the surrounding communities. 

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the advocacy, community outreach, marketing, and resource development of the organization. Other key duties include administration and strategic plan development. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities         

Leadership, management, and administration of Advocate Drum. 

In conjunction with the Board, identify and engage key leaders and personnel to enhance the understanding, communications and to resolve issues of mutual concern between Fort Drum and the community.

Develop, promote, and implement marketing and outreach tools that increase the base of support for Fort Drum and Advocate Drum.

In conjunction with the Board and Fort Drum leaders, identify opportunities for Advocate Drum to work with the region to enhance the military value of the installation.

Work with regional partners to maximize the economic and cultural significance of Fort Drum to the region and New York State.

Develop and monitor the organization’s budget and financial position.

Coordinate activities in keeping with the organization’s Strategic Plan (https://www.advocatedrum.com/about-advocate-drum/)

Monitor activities at the local and national level that may influence the future of Fort Drum and/or the 10th Mountain Division.

Represent Advocate Drum at military and community functions to support and enhance the bond between Advocate Drum and the greater Fort Drum community.

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to Advocate Drum’s mission.

Qualifications

All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

Significant senior management experience with an advanced degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A track record of effectively leading an organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.

Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff and volunteers, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.

Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges of uniformed military service and current Defense issues.

Action-oriented, results driven, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.

Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.

Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
